Parking around student housing
At the now demolished Ingleside Trailer Park, I know there are plans to build some student housing. Does the city regulate the number of parking spaces that must be made available? I see the mess on Simpson Avenue and the development at the old Rogers restaurant site and it makes me think it is up to the builder and they apparently don’t care that there is not adequate parking.
The city Code of Ordinances does regulate parking, specifically in the zoning ordinances.
As to the details of the former Ingleside Trailer Park, from Susan Straub, mayor Jim Newberry’s spokesperson: “The development plan for the former Ingleside Trailer Park has been approved by the Planning Commission and certified. It will allow 168 2 and 4 bedroom apartments to be constructed there, and is to have 453 parking spaces, plus an additional 40 near the project entrance at 1051 Red Mile Road opposite the harness track.”

My mother was a public school librarian. I earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky. The Herald-Leader hired me as a news assistant 25 years ago; soon after, I moved to the news research department, where I’ve been ever since. We used to clip newspapers. Now, almost all of our research is online. We've come a long way.
