Area castle to be bed-and-breakfast
Question: When will the castle bed-and-breakfast on Versailles Road be ready for occupancy? I thought it was already supposed to be finished.
Answer: According to Julie Reed, account executive with Meridian Communications, the bed-and-breakfast will be open to the public and ready to take reservations in late August or early September. She says the decorators are working furouisly to get the hotel finished. For more information contact Julie Reed at 859-879-1000.
Here’s a brief history of the castle:
A fire destroyed the house in 2004. But the owner, Miami lawyer and University of Kentucky graduate Thomas Post, is renovating the castle and intends to open it up as a bed-and-breakfast. No word yet on how much Post will spend on the renovation, but he paid $1.8 million for the castle property.
In the February 6, 2008, Herald-Leader, we wrote this about the castle development:
Bed-and-breakfast approved
On a 5-0 vote Monday night, the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Board of Adjustment approved a request by Thomas Post to operate a bed-and-breakfast at 105 Shannon Run Road east of Versailles. In October 2005, the board approved the property’s use as a “tourist home,” which is similar to a bed-and-breakfast but does not serve meals. Post sought the new designation after the Kentucky Court of Appeals ruled that the board of adjustment had acted arbitrarily in granting a conditional-use permit.Linda Niemi
