Disposal of dead animals on roadways
Posted on May 23, 2008 by admin
Question: Who should people call to remove dead animals on the streets of Lexington? I’ve noticed both a dead duck and opossum on Tates Creek for about two weeks now.
Answer: A spokesperson for the city waste management office says their office is in charge of picking up and disposing of dead animals on the roadways in Lexington. City crews will pick up dead animals as they spot them, but about 90% of the animals removed from streets result from calls from the public.
To report a dead animal on city streets call LexCall at 425-2255.

My mother was a public school librarian. I earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky. The Herald-Leader hired me as a news assistant 25 years ago; soon after, I moved to the news research department, where I’ve been ever since. We used to clip newspapers. Now, almost all of our research is online. We've come a long way.
