Question about new towers

Question: There are several new, tall, grey electric towers being installed at UK on Cooper Drive. Are they permanent or temporary? What are they used for? Is any cable being put underground?
Answer: Your answer comes from from University of Kentucky Public Relations/Marketing Executive Director Jay Blanton:
The towers along Cooper Drive are for electric service for new hospital. Some 65 percent of the cable for this project has gone underground. But in that particular area, we are going through what might be a future building site, so rather than put them underground when we later might have to move them (a very costly proposition), we decided upon elevated lines at that point.

My mother was a public school librarian. I earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky. The Herald-Leader hired me as a news assistant 25 years ago; soon after, I moved to the news research department, where I’ve been ever since. We used to clip newspapers. Now, almost all of our research is online. We've come a long way.
