No laketowers on Laketower Drive

Question: How did Laketower Drive in Lexington get its name?  Where is the laketower?

Answer: First some background on how streets are named. This comes from city planning office. Developers name most streets.  An addressing committee reviews the names to make sure they are not duplicates, obscene, ridiculous, etc.  It it fits the city’s criteria, the name will stick. Usually a developer will submit a group of twenty or so names for review before construction begins in an attempt to reserve their favorites. If for whatever reason, people want to change the name of their street  (too complicated to spell or too weird to pronounce) two-thirds of unique property owners can submit a new name for review.  Unique owner means that if one person owns several lots in an area, they only get one vote.  This keeps one person from dominating the re-naming process.

But this still doesn’t explain a laketower. I couldn’t locate the name of the developer. If any readers know the answer, please let us know. You’ve stumped the librarian with this one.

  1. I got this comment from a reader and will check into it: LN

I live at Lakeshore Villiage on Laketower Drive. It was developed by Ball homes back in the 70s. Maybe someone at Ball Homes knows how the street got its name.
