Highest point in Lexington
Where is the highest point of elevation in Fayette County? I was told once that it was near winchester and New Circle Roads. The view from the overpass is awesome.
In the 1979 Kentucky Geological Survey publication Topography of Kentucky, by Preston McGrain and James C. Currens, the highest elevation in Fayette County is listed as 1,070 feet. This location is on a nearly flat-topped ridge near the west end of Athens Walnut Hill Road. The lowest point, at 549 feet (normal pool elevation), is at Valley View Ferry. Neither of these locations can be associated with a particular neighborhood.
Other elevations within Lexington, by comparison, are the Main Building on the UK campus at 975 feet and the Old Court House on Main Street at 959 feet.

My mother was a public school librarian. I earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky. The Herald-Leader hired me as a news assistant 25 years ago; soon after, I moved to the news research department, where I’ve been ever since. We used to clip newspapers. Now, almost all of our research is online. We've come a long way.
